How to Start Your Own Farmers Market Booth

Farmers Market, Vendors

Welcome to Frisco Fresh Market! Are you interested in becoming a vendor at our seasonal outdoor market? Starting your booth is an excellent opportunity to share your passion for fresh, locally sourced food and connect with your community.

At Frisco Fresh Market, we welcome all kinds of vendors. If you’re a farmer, you can showcase your farm’s fresh produce. Baker? Bring your signature artisanal bread to market. Whatever your product, Frisco Fresh Market is a great way to connect with customers looking for your high-quality, locally sourced products.

Step One: Review the Frisco Fresh Farmers Market Guidelines

Frisco Fresh Market focuses on working with local producers, and vendors must have all necessary permits and licenses to sell. Before your first weekend at the market, we require the following:

  • Your signed lease agreement
  • Your stall payment for your first two weekends at the market
  • Your liability insurance that lists Frisco Fresh Market as “additional insured”
  • You may only sell items the Growth Manager approves

You can find more information about basic guidelines, not to mention our Vendor Portal, here.

Step Two: Decide on the Wares You Want to Sell

Choosing the right product to sell at Frisco Fresh Market is your first crucial step. We offer various product categories: fresh produce, meat, dairy, baked goods, artisanal crafts, and more.

It’s important to choose something that aligns with the values of the market. Frisco Fresh Market values fresh, locally sourced products that are sustainably grown and produced. Offering products that align with these values means you’ll attract customers who share your passion for high-quality, ethical food practices.

It’s also essential to choose a product you’re passionate about because this obviously comes through when you present it to customers. Enthusiasm and knowledge about your product are contagious and will help you build a loyal customer base.

If you’re unsure what product to sell, consider your strengths and interests. Do you have a green thumb and love gardening? Do you have a unique skill or craft? Use these strengths and interests to determine what you can sell at your booth.

Step Three: Get All Your Applicable Permits

If you plan on selling any food or beverage-related items at Frisco Fresh Market, you must obtain a current food permit. This applies to all vendors and ensures everything at the Market meets necessary health and safety standards, though the type of permit may vary depending on what you’re offering.

You’ll also need to get a Sales Tax number from the State of Texas and pay any sales tax assessed on your products. This means you’ll need to keep track of any sales tax collected from customers and send it to the state. Vendors are also responsible for filing any returns and maintaining accurate records of all their sales.

It may seem like a lot of paperwork, but it’s all important for running a business and complying with state and local regulations. If you have any questions or concerns about getting the necessary permits or about sales tax, please don’t hesitate to contact Frisco Fresh Market staff. You might also consider speaking with a tax professional or accountant.

Step Four: Apply for Your Frisco Fresh Market Booth

Once you determine what you want to sell, it’s time to apply for a booth at Frisco Fresh Market. Fortunately, the application process is simple and can be completed online through the Frisco Fresh Market website.

It’s important to review all the guidelines and get all the required information and documentation together and readily available before applying. This includes product photos, a business license, and any necessary permits or licenses. Having everything prepared in advance will ensure a smooth and efficient application process.

Also worth noting: there’s a non-refundable application fee. This fee covers the cost of reviewing your application and helps make sure all vendors are serious about selling at Frisco Fresh Market.

You have the opportunity to connect with customers who are passionate about supporting local businesses and enjoying high-quality, fresh products. Don’t hesitate to contact Frisco Fresh Market staff if you have any questions or concerns about the application process or becoming a vendor. We’re always happy to help!

Step Five: Design Your Booth for Sales

After accepting your application, it’s time to start preparing your booth. Frisco Fresh Market provides 92 booth spaces, each measuring 10 feet by 10 feet. Vendors bring their own tables, chairs, and any display items.

It’s important to make your booth visually appealing and attractively showcase your products. One possibility is eye-catching signs or banners that clearly display your business name and product offerings. You might also arrange your products in a visually appealing way, using creative displays or decor elements that align with your brand. Don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with different display techniques to see what works best for your business.

Another great way to entice customers is by offering free samples. It showcases the quality and taste of your products and can help you build a loyal customer base.

Step Six: Come to Market!

As a vendor, it’s essential to know you’re required to be at the market during business hours unless you have written permission from our staff. This is so customers can rely on your presence at the market and plan their visits accordingly.

If you need to cancel your attendance at the market, it’s important to provide at least 14 days’ notice. You won’t be eligible for a refund, but you will get credit toward another market day. This helps ensure other vendors have the opportunity to participate in the market, and we can keep it a fair and balanced environment for all.

It’s also worth noting that early closing is not permitted, even if you sell out of all your products. You should remain in your stall until the end of the market day and put up signage letting customers know you’ve run out of product. This helps maintain a consistent and professional experience for all customers and a high standard of customer service for vendors.

Adhering to market vendor guidelines will help create a positive and successful experience for yourself and your customers. Don’t hesitate to contact Frisco Fresh Market staff if you have any questions or concerns about these policies or any other aspect of being one of our vendors. We’re always here to help!
